The ACC Tournament quarterfinals commenced with the North Carolina Tar Heels securing a decisive 92-67 victory over Florida State. Demonstrating their dominance early on, the Tar Heels, who are fourth in the national rankings and seeded first, initiated their pursuit of their first conference championship in eight years by outplaying the Seminoles with a critical run in the final minutes of the first half. Armando Bacot, reflecting on the team's performance, highlighted the unique experience for the team, underscoring their determination and hard work.

The Tar Heels showcased a balanced attack with eleven players scoring, led by ACC Player of the Year R.J. Davis with 18 points. Coach Hubert Davis praised the team's effort, energy, and defensive attention to detail, emphasizing the significant role their rebounding played in the victory. Bacot himself contributed a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, demonstrating UNC's superiority on the boards.

Florida State struggled to counter UNC's intensity, with Primo Spears leading their effort with 17 points. Despite their efforts, FSU's challenges hinted at broader questions about the program's direction under coach Leonard Hamilton.

The ACC Tournament also highlighted other key matchups, including an anticipated game between NC State and Duke, with the Wolfpack surprising the Blue Devils with a sound beating 74-69. Additionally, the tournament saw the Panthers overcoming Wake Forest, setting the stage for their next game against North Carolina, and Boston College fell to Virginia.

The semifinals today promise more intense action. UNC-Chapel Hill (North Carolina) and Pittsburgh will compete at 7 p.m., and NC State and Virginia will battle it out at 9:30 p.m., with both games airing on ESPN/ESPN2.

The tournament will reach its climax on Saturday, March 16, with the championship game. The finalists, determined by Friday's semifinals, will compete for the title at 8:30 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN.

From Patient to Philanthropist: Teen Uses Wish to Support UNC Children's Hospital

A remarkable story of generosity and resilience emerged as 17-year-old Indigo "Indi" Powell from Raleigh became the 4,500th recipient of a wish granted by Make-A-Wish Eastern NC. Having battled stage four brain cancer since she was 13, Powell is now in remission and has chosen to use her wish in an extraordinary way. Grateful for the support she received during her treatment at UNC Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill, Powell decided to pay it forward by creating a special event for the hospital's pediatric patients.

She established the Indiglow Toy Shop, a one-day free pop-up store at UNC Children's Hospital, allowing patients to select toys and gifts. The initiative reflects Powell's desire to provide comfort and joy to others facing medical challenges, drawing from her own experiences of love and support during her treatment. The community rallied behind her vision, with the Amazon Wishlist for the Indiglow Toy Shop quickly selling out, ensuring that many toys will remain at the hospital for future patients to enjoy. Inspired by her journey and the care she received, Powell is now planning a career in the medical field, aspiring to work in a pediatric hospital.

President Biden and VP Harris Scheduled for North Carolina Visit

Happy Joe Biden GIF by The Democrats

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have scheduled a visit to North Carolina on March 26, with plans to attend a private fundraising event in Raleigh. This announcement comes as Vice President Harris recently visited the state, engaging in initiatives to bolster entrepreneurship and support small businesses, particularly emphasizing aid for black entrepreneurs in Durham's historic Black Wall Street area.

During her earlier visit, Harris highlighted the allocation of $32 million to minority and women-led venture capital firms in North Carolina, funded through the American Rescue Plan. This investment aims to provide not just loans but also equity investments to small business owners, addressing the gap in opportunity and access to financial resources.

Vice President Harris, accompanied by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, stressed the importance of such initiatives for providing equal opportunities and fostering talent, drive, and ambition among entrepreneurs. Governor Cooper lauded the Biden-Harris administration's efforts through the American Rescue Plan as a significant step towards strengthening small businesses and transforming communities in the state.

Former President Donald Trump also made a visit to North Carolina earlier in the month, focusing on key campaign issues during a "Get Out The Vote" rally in Greensboro, where he discussed plans for immediate deportations at the border and tackling inflation.
