UNC Chapel Hill Claims No. 1 Seed in NCAA West Region After Stellar Season

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has emerged as a formidable force this basketball season, culminating in earning the prestigious No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament's West Region. This achievement marks a notable turnaround from the previous year when the Tar Heels were noticeably absent from the tournament bracket. Positioned fourth nationally, the team is gearing up for a significant start to March Madness, scheduled to play in Charlotte, close to home base, this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Their opening game will see them face the victor of the initial First Four clash between Howard University and Wagner College.

The Tar Heels have showcased exceptional prowess throughout the season, boasting an overall record of 27-7 and an impressive 17-3 in conference games. This outstanding performance secured them their first outright Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular-season championship in seven years. Despite a challenging 84-76 loss to North Carolina State in the ACC tournament championship game, the Tar Heels' spirits remain high. Their eyes are set on making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, starting with their forthcoming game in Charlotte, where local support is expected to be in full force.

Math Meets Merriment: Principals Participate in Pi Day Pie Extravaganza

Last Thursday, March 14th, 2023, the students at McDougle Middle School learned about mathematics and the importance of constant Pi (π) in a different way.

In celebration of Pi Day, marked by the mathematical constant 3.14, students were given a unique chance to engage in a week-long trivia contest. This event culminated in a memorable lunchtime activity where participants could win the opportunity to pie their school principal. The initiative saw Mr. Horne, Dr. West, and Mrs. Johnson, demonstrating commendable spirit and humor, volunteering to be on the receiving end of the pies. Their participation not only added a layer of excitement but also fostered a sense of community and joy among the students. This creative approach to commemorating Pi Day not only made mathematics fun but also brought laughter and unity to the school environment.
