Last evening, Carrboro High School hosted the annual Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) Recognition Ceremony, an event marked by the celebration of exceptional educational staff achievements. The highlight of the night was the announcement of the 2024-25 District Teacher of the Year, Roxana Rojas, a dedicated Kindergarten teacher from Seawell Elementary.

The ceremony also acknowledged the outstanding contributions of other staff members, including Lonnie Hatley and Robin Nucilli, who shared the title of Mary Scroggs Classified Employees of the Year. Hatley serves in the Transportation Department as a bus driver, while Nucilli works as a communications specialist in the Communications Division at Lincoln Center.

Additionally, Becky Brown, a school counselor at FPG Bilingüe, was honored as the School Support and Wellness Employee of the Year. These recognitions highlight the diverse roles and significant impacts of the district's staff.

The event, a collaboration with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation and supported by local businesses like Pinnacle Financial Partners, Rotary Club of Chapel Hill, and Jersey Mike’s, celebrated the contributions of many community members. The generosity from the Foundation’s Breakfast and Roses event in April played a crucial role in funding the awards.

In Durham, Brandon Eno, aged 32, has been charged with the murders of two individuals, including his estranged wife, 32-year-old Jennifer Faith Eno, following two shootings that occurred minutes apart last Saturday morning. The first victim, Jennifer, was found fatally shot inside a vehicle located near the intersection of Southwest Durham Drive and Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard at approximately 11:12 a.m. Shortly thereafter, the second victim, 31-year-old Scott Edward Snyder Jr., was discovered shot in a nearby parking lot on Mount Moriah Road. Following a quick response by law enforcement, Brandon Eno was arrested and charged with both homicides. During his first court appearance, which was held virtually on Monday, Eno was denied bail. This incident is part of a larger pattern of violence that saw 10 shootings within the past week in Durham.
