Hillsborough Water Outage Expands: New Areas Affected June 12-13

Hillsborough residents should prepare for an expanded water outage scheduled for the night of June 12, lasting until the morning of June 13. The outage, starting at 9 p.m. on June 12 and ending at 7 a.m. on June 13, is necessary for utility crews to connect a new water main and replace broken water valves. The affected areas include several streets and addresses, with a detailed map provided for reference. After the work is completed, water lines will be flushed to remove any contaminants. Residents are advised to run cold water in a bathtub if they notice discoloration or air bubbles, and contact the Water Treatment Plant if the issue persists. Orange County Powerball Ticket Strikes Big with $50,000 Win

A Powerball ticket purchased in Orange County, North Carolina, yielded a significant prize over the weekend. The North Carolina Education Lottery announced that the fortunate ticket was sold at Twins Market Tobacco in Hillsborough and won $50,000 in Saturday night's drawing. Powerball drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. After the most recent drawing on Monday, the jackpot is now at $20 million.

Kidzu Children's Museum Announces New 45-Acre Museum Site

Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill is expanding to a 45-acre site on Mt. Carmel Church Road. The new N.C. Children’s Museum will feature a renovated barn, gardens, an outdoor pavilion, and extensive play and learning spaces. Emphasizing North Carolina's history and culture, the museum will offer diverse programs for all ages. The project includes a conservation easement and plans for trails linking to nearby preserves. Scheduled to open its first phase next summer, the museum aims to be a major educational destination.

Weekend Sandwich Pop-Up 'The Plump Rabbit' Launches at Bombolo

Bombolo, a popular new restaurant in Chapel Hill, will launch a summer sandwich pop-up called The Plump Rabbit this weekend, featuring seven unique sandwiches and ice cream. Owned by chef siblings Garret Fleming and Eleanor Lacy, Bombolo is branching out from its pasta-focused menu to offer creative sandwiches inspired by Fleming's culinary journey. The pop-up will become a regular weekend event, with prices ranging from $16 to $20.
