Estes Drive Upgrade Completed: New Paths, Sidewalks, and Bike Lanes

Estes Drive has reopened to two-way traffic after over two years of construction. The $6 million project added multi-use paths, sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian crosswalks. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Tuesday, with a biking and walking parade planned for fall. Occasional lane closures will continue as finishing touches are made. The nearby Aura Booth Park development will complete the pedestrian and bike paths on the north side of Estes Drive and may begin leasing this fall.

Quick-Thinking Physicians Rescue Chapel Hill Boy from Drowning

Local doctors from UNC and Duke saved 13-year-old Javen Zhen from drowning at a Chapel Hill pool party. Dr. Elisa Lund noticed Javen in distress, pulled him from the water, and administered CPR along with other physicians. The incident underscores the importance of lifeguard training and CPR. Javen's mother hopes the story raises awareness about water safety.

Statewide Suicide Prevention Summit Held in Chapel Hill

Discussions at the summit covered several key areas, including updates on North Carolina’s suicide prevention plan, national suicide prevention resources, and the progress made so far in addressing this critical issue.

Durham Airbnb Host Wins Eviction Case Against Squatting Guests

Durham Airbnb host Farzana Rahman took legal action to evict guests who overstayed their booking by nearly a month. After a court ruling in her favor, the guests still have 10 days to appeal. Rahman initially faced resistance from the guests, who claimed legal residency and disputed the checkout date. With media involvement, Airbnb has now stepped in to assist Rahman with damages and payments.
