UNC Health Proposes $90M Expansion for Chapel Hill Medical Center

UNC Health plans to expand its Chapel Hill medical center by adding 26 acute care beds. The project involves reallocating space within existing towers and renovating 52,654 square feet, with a projected cost of $90 million. While there is no competition for beds in Orange County, UNC Health is engaged in legal disputes with Duke Health over bed allocations in Durham County. Both health systems are pursuing further expansions amid ongoing appeals.

Rapper André 3000 to Perform in Durham for First Time Since 2014

André 3000 is set to embark on a fall tour following his performances at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Big Ears in Knoxville, and Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. This tour will include a stop in North Carolina on November 12 at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC). Accompanying him on stage will be musicians Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, and Deantoni Parks, who were all featured on his latest instrumental album, New Blue Sun. This performance marks André 3000's first appearance in North Carolina since OutKast played at Funk Fest in Charlotte in 2014.

New Blue Sun, André 3000's debut solo album released in November, represents a significant shift from his rap career with OutKast. This 87-minute experimental album, his first new music release in over 17 years, showcases André 3000 playing various flutes alongside percussionist Carlos Niño, keyboardist Surya Botofasina, guitarist Nate Mercereau, drummer Deantoni Parks, and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Peterson. The album has received critical acclaim, though it has also faced some criticism from longtime hip-hop fans.

The New Blue Sun Live in Concert tour will visit Durham on November 12 at DPAC. Artist presale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, June 26 at 10 a.m., with public sales beginning Friday, June 28 at 10 a.m.
