Disability Advocate and Digital Library Director Vie for Carrboro Council Seat

Isaac Woolsey and Cristóbal Palmer are running for a vacant Carrboro Town Council seat. Woolsey, a disability rights advocate, aims to expand public transit and address employment discrimination against people with disabilities. Palmer, a digital library director, focuses on streamlining development and enhancing affordable housing. Both will meet voters at an upcoming community event. Read more about the candidates.

Chapel Hill Moves Forward with Redevelopment Plan for Toxic Coal Ash Site

Chapel Hill’s police headquarters is built on a toxic coal ash site. A new draft agreement aims to designate the area as a Brownfields site for future redevelopment, with restrictions on its use. The town must design a structural cap to contain the coal ash before any redevelopment. The agreement prohibits residential and other sensitive uses. Public comments on the draft are open until July 30.

Call for Artists: Exhibit Your Work in Chapel Hill’s Public Spaces 2024 – 2025

Chapel Hill invites Triangle area artists and curators to apply for the Public Spaces 2024 – 2025 indoor exhibition series. Exhibits will be displayed for two months at the Chapel Hill Public Library and Chapel Hill Town Hall, with the opportunity to sell artwork commission-free. A stipend of $300 will be provided to each lead artist or curator. Applications are open until July 18, 5 pm. Learn more and apply here.
