Troy, 25, an entrepreneur and Aflac agent in the Triangle
Roots and Entrepreneurial Beginnings
When you meet Bravin Troy, his energy is contagious. Born in California but raised in Brunswick County, North Carolina, Bravin has always balanced small-town roots with big dreams.
After earning his degree at Appalachian State University, he dove headfirst into the world of entrepreneurship—serving as president of the Entrepreneurship Club and launching a creative venture with a childhood friend: an interactive children’s book that teaches storytelling through interchangeable pages. There's also a website for the books: https://scramblesbooks.com/

That project—and his entrepreneurial drive—eventually brought him to the Triangle, where he’s now helping others build their futures in a different but equally powerful way.
Finding Purpose at Aflac
Bravin didn’t set out to work in insurance. He was looking for independence and flexibility, but found something deeper when he discovered Aflac.
“I love small businesses,” he said. “Working with family-owned, homegrown companies is what really attracted me to Aflac.”
He joined Aflac in April 2024 as an independent agent, combining his love of entrepreneurship with his desire to make an impact. What he found was a company whose values matched his own—helping protect small businesses and families from financial hardship.
Unlike traditional health insurers, Aflac specializes in supplemental insurance—policies that pay cash directly to the insured when unexpected medical events occur.
“Aflac doesn’t replace major medical insurance—it complements it,” Bravin explained. “When you’re hurt, hospitalized, or diagnosed with something serious, Aflac helps you stay afloat. It pays you, not the hospital.”
A Philosophy Rooted in Leadership and Service
Bravin traces much of his leadership mindset back to his time as an Eagle Scout, when he organized a community project to build picnic tables for his elementary school.
“It wasn’t just about the tables—it was about taking initiative, leading others, and leaving something behind that made the community better,” he said.
That same drive shapes how he serves his clients today: with a blend of education, empathy, and entrepreneurship. Every client meeting starts with what he calls a discovery session, where he helps business owners understand their options and find solutions tailored to their needs.

A Gen Z Take on Business and Hope
As a 25-year-old professional in a field dominated by older generations, Bravin stands out for his optimism and perspective.
“My generation cares deeply about community, sustainability, and doing business the right way,” he said. “We want to make the world better—and I think there’s good reason to be hopeful.”
He believes the future belongs to entrepreneurs and small business owners who lead with purpose and heart, not just profit.
Why Supplemental Insurance Matters
For many small businesses, offering full health insurance isn’t financially feasible. Aflac provides an affordable middle ground—policies that cost an average of $30 a month, giving employees peace of mind and helping employers stay competitive.
“Most Americans are just two paychecks away from financial hardship,” Bravin explained. “When a medical emergency happens, Aflac helps keep them on their feet.”
Founded in 1955, Aflac built its legacy on cancer insurance, inspired by two brothers who wanted to help families devastated by treatment costs. Today, that mission remains the heartbeat of the company.
“One in three people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime,” Bravin shared. “Aflac was created to make sure those moments don’t destroy everything you’ve worked for.”
Community First, Always
Bravin’s approach is simple: lead with education. He’s not just selling policies—he’s helping people make informed, confident decisions. Whether working with individuals or small businesses, his focus is on building trust and resilience within the community.
And as healthcare costs rise and insurance access fluctuates, Bravin sees Aflac as a vital safety net:
“No one’s ever worse off because Aflac paid them,” he said. “We can’t fix the system, but we can protect people from falling through the cracks.”
